The Rash: Kicking the new year off Like a Boss

Welcome to “The Rash”, a weekly series on the local cycling scene and general “best of” material. If you’ve got feedback or you’d like to see more on a particular topic, leave a comment.

The Rash!?

No, future issues won’t likely bare this hideous name (unless they do. It’s kind of catchy, right?), but sometimes you’ve just got to put the pen to paper and have a laugh. Until at least next week your stuck with it, so enjoy.

A New Website

For the first time in a while we’re kicking off the year with a new website, some fresh writing, and soon a new jersey. That is something to celebrate. For the past couple years, I’ve had a re-design on my mind but had been short on time and motivation. This Christmas break I found a bit of both and hammered together this new design. This is particularly exciting for me because it is one of my earlier forays into the world of responsive design and it gave me a chance to develop some rapid prototypes utilizing Zurb‘s foundation framework. The end result is that we’ve got a new website designed to adapt to wherever you are consuming it. Typography will adapt to your screen, heavy lifting carousels are left behind on the small screens,  and much more. What pleases me most is that we’ve got a whole new playground to create and have some fun. I’m very much looking forward to it.

A New Jersey/Kit

True story. It’s in the works. I’ll share more once it’s just a little closer 🙂

This Week’s “Best of”…

Video: The Bike Lane

If you’re not aware of the extraordinary content that’s being produced over at Cycling Tips, then it’s time to take a look. I’ve read the occasional column for a while, but only recently stumbled on their web series “The Bike Lane”. While it does go a bit Australia-centric at times (that’s where it’s filmed), it is by far one of the best ways to spend a lunch hour. The hosts are knowledgable and hilarious. It may be the next best thing to riding. bike-lane

I spotted this gem outside my local grocery store and immediately fell in love. It’s willingness to be equal parts hipster and silly instantly won it a place in my heart. If you find a bike that is equally tongue -in-cheek, tweet me a pic (@roadrashcycling). I’d love to see it.
